WHY SPONSOR IEEE WIE UPRM STUDENT BRANCH?
STEM Diversity in IEEE Membership
Our membership in the university is truly diverse with members enrolled in different engineering disciplines such as computer, electrical, software, chemical, mechanical, industrial, and civil engineering. Computer and Electrical Engineering students make up most of our members. In addition, we also have members from other disciplines such as physics, mathematics, biology, and biotechnology.
STAR PROGRAM
Ignite your curiosity.
The IEEE Student-Teacher and Research Engineer/Scientist (STAR) Program was developed to address the growing concern that, at a young age, girls are discouraged from STEM careers. The IEEE WIE UPRM Student Branch have a commitment to encourage girls and anyone in Puerto Rico to pursue careers in STEM for the work field to become more diverse and inclusive.
The STAR Program consists of pre-university outreach activities. Our student branch organizes two mass activities per year: UPRM Engineering Department Seminars and UPRM Engineering Department Workshops.

COMMUNITY SERVICE
Our student branch is fully committed to our community, which is why we organize events to foster our members’ sense of community and empathy. Some of the activities we coordinate include beach clean-ups, breakfast for people in need, food drives, fundraising for humanitarian relief, and Relay for Life.
